In Support of Above and Beyond

Bike Science Bristol are delighted to be supporting the Above & Beyond Bristol to Paris Cycle Challenge 2016. Not only are we the bike shop partner for the event, but owner of Bike Science Andy Sexton will be taking part in the 430km ride himself.

The Bristol to Paris ride will take place from 29th April to 3rd May and over 80 cyclists including couples, clinicians and local businesses have signed up to take part and raise vital funds for the charity.

Above & Beyond is the charity supporting Bristol’s city centre hospitals (including the BRI, Haematology & Oncology Centre and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children).

One cyclist taking part in the Bristol to Paris Challenge is Andy Venn, who’s 11 year old son Joe has a serious heart condition. The aim of the event is to raise £150,000 for a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine that can provide 3D images of the heart in real time enabling complex operations to be carried out with even greater precision.

For the 350 children from across Bristol and the South West who require life saving surgery at Bristol children’s hospital each year this technology will give them a greater chance of enjoying a normal and active childhood.

Quote from Joe’s dad Andy

“Eight months of your life- training, fundraising and taking part in the Bristol to Paris Cycle Challenge - will give a number of children their whole lives back.”
