Bike Science-Sponsored Triathlon Team Celebrates Achievements

The Bike Science community sport spirit has been in full force recently, as our local sponsored Triathlon team, DRC Triathlon Club, competed in their first event – the Westonbirt Sprint Tri at the end of May.

The new team, based in Dursley, has brought together members of the local community from all walks of life, including many from the local running and cycling clubs.

Members include complete novices, who couldn’t swim, or ride about without stabilisers, alongside athletes who have completed the toughest of triathlons in the form of Ironman.

Local coaches Tara Truman and her sidekick Tony Freer, have put this team of individuals through a number of structured and fun training sessions with the results being not only an improvement in the ability to complete a triathlon but to also build a fantastic community where members are able to share their lives.

All have come to encourage each other and can be relied on for mutual support - as some members are battling addiction, mental and/or physical health conditions.

On the day of the event, one active member of the club will be celebrating 2 years of sobriety.

Bringing the community together to enjoy sport is paramount to us as a business, and we are proud of our on-going sponsorship of the DRC Triathlon Club. It is looking like they will go from strength to strength, with plans already in the making for an Olympic distance triathlon in August, and talk of a half Ironman event in 2018. We look forward to being alongside them.
